Description:
Antique transfer ware or transferware child dish. This small dish has a flat base with a raised foot. The sides are extending outwards to a slightly slanted wide edge ending in a plain rim. The plate's rim has raised letters of the alphabet from A to Z along the edge. This dish has a maroon colored transfer image in the flat center. The transfer image depicts a child climbing a wall with a basket of fruit on his back and a chained guard dog watching. There is another child wearing a hat peaking from the other side of the wall. There are fruits on the ground and a hat, obviously the climbing child's, on the ground near the wall. There are fruits above the wall. Did the child fall on the side of the wall with the dog while collecting fruits from the top of the wall? The plate has no inscriptions on the front and is unmarked on the back. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece:
Very nice china alphabet child's dish with nice and unusual decoration and subject. Just a very nice piece, which would make a nice addition to your collection of Children ABC dishes
Condition:
Plate is in very good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. It does have crazing throughout and some staining. The back has general staining. There is also some minor flakes to the surface along the edge of the plate which we show in the last photo. Be that as it may this an nice ABC plate that is in great condition after being around for about two hundred years. Please see photos for additional condition information.
